overall personality,
when it comes down to it, avery is a very pleasant girl. she has a positive demeanor that just sort of comes naturally. socializing with others certainly isn't something that is easy for her to do, but she has her charming moments that make her seem genial and bright. a lot of the time she looks and acts sort of stoic and it's kind of a misconception since she smiles more often then not, as well as her habit of teasing herself and others maybe more than she really should. she is mature in a lot of ways and seems to be mature, which is pretty much another misconception about her since she's really not. sometimes her way of dealing with problems is a little bizarre, occasionally involving her sticking out her tongue or doing something else surprisingly childish. that happens solely when her temper is flared so much she can't deal with anything reasonably or calmly. settling disagreements is usually one of her strong points. moving on, avery's sincerity on all matters is what also makes her a bit of a sweetheart. she treats nearly all things with a childish enthusiasm that makes her endearing to some and annoying to others. usually her sincerity only shows to its fullest around those she's especially comfortable with.
* -- i shoot down my dignity .
confidence is certainly not one of avery's strong suits. she was always a little quieter than the rest of her family and she always felt a little bit like the odd-one-out. her mother was a model; blonde, willowy, and with jaw-dropping good looks. avery always hoped that would be how she turned out, sophisticated and beautiful like her mother. yet, she ended up being short, frumpy, and awkward, hardly a bundle of vogue-worthy qualities. avery admittedly knew from the start she wasn't cut out for being a model, maybe because she always secretly thought the industry was a little too vain, but mostly because she just was never flashy enough. when she was a teenager, her insecurities were probably at their worst, heightened by the over-dramatic way teenagers twist things into, and making her very, very awkward. she managed to convince herself into thinking horrible things about herself. nothing to the extreme, of course. avery never even got close to doing anything drastic to solve her so-called problems. she wasn't really daring enough, really. for avery, she could never satisfy herself, nothing was ever good enough: not herself, not anything she did, not the way she dressed, or acted. to her, it all just seemed wrong. and somehow, avery never out-grew the whole insecure, awkward mind-set, and so at the age of twenty, she's still partially stuck back in her sophomore year of high school.
* -- caught up in the moment .
always being the 'goody-goody', you wouldn't really suspect avery of being the type of girl who never planned things out or thought head. but really, that's how she is. she has the horrible tendency of never thinking things through and is also terrible at remembering things or keeping things tidy. she's incredibly disorganized, pretty much to the point it's a miracle if she can ever locate anything in her apartment. she changes her mind about things constantly, and she'll lose her train of thought in an instant if you distract her. when avery was in high school, she would attempt to concentrate in, say, algebra, and then be distracted by some seniors lolling around outside and then miss the entire lesson. it wasn't as though avery was stupid, she just never paid attention. it makes her a random, erratic person since her mind never really seems to be made up and she just lives in the moment. relationships are a prime example of when she just gets caught up in the whirl-wind of it all. she has had the worst luck with her romantic life. her first kiss was when she was seven and a neighborhood boy just decided to plant one on her. she barely even remembers the kiss, much less remember the name of the boy who kissed her. the number of relationships she's had are few, and she's begun to think that maybe this whole love concept doesn't actually exist since avery herself just can't seem to find it any where. her love life is a dismal, dismal thing.
* -- you know i'd understand .
as a friend or companion, avery is completely and utterly sincere. she has patience in only one area, and that would be with her friends. she can quite literally listen to her friends talk about their issues for hours and not say a word, yet still be perfectly in tune to the conversation. it's amazing, and avery's not even sure how she does it half the time, yet she does. she always seems to care about others, and holds a good deal of compassion. she might be what you consider a very humane person because of it. she does all those classic acts of volunteering, helping out at a soup kitchen or donating to the animal shelter, just because she feels it's at least something decent she can do with her life. avery's empathy of understanding different situations helps with her current employment, being a screen writer. she has a vivid imagination, which can imagine what it's like to wake up the next morning with a hangover, even though she's never had a sip of alcohol in her life. mostly since she was a straight-c student, the only thing that's been able to keep her afloat in the real world is her ability to write. she got lucky getting the job she has, and she knows to keep it she has to work hard. avery never went to college, after all, and she makes about ten times less than her parents ever did when she was growing up, but avery has made it work.[/ul]
