hello there. i'm mo and i am sixteen years old. i've been roleplaying for about too many and i have read the rules. i also play your mom, so maybe you know me from them. well, on with my character
CHARACTER BASICS,
full name, Sloane DeWitt nicknames, Sloane; however the media prefers DeWitt Junior in reference to her older brother. age, Sweet sixteen. member group, Socialite occupation, Student, although that's just a formality. She wants to sing. major&grade, High school, 10th grade. sexuality, Straight wealth class, Old money rich.
APPEREANCE,
hair, Like most parts of her, Sloane takes meticulously good care of her hair. Ladylike blonde and pin straight, she's been known to cut class if the humidity doesn't suit her. She keeps it down around her shoulders and trims it every month. Sloane would never dream of dying her hair and she has fired numerous stylists who have suggested it. She's used the same expensive hair products since she was old enough to say to her mother "No, Barb, I would not care to use your leftover Brilliant Brunette 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner." She was five. Don't be fooled by her no fuss styles and never changing length: it costs big money to look this low maintenance. eyes, Sloane is told, vehemently and often, that she has 'old eyes.' She takes this as a personal offense to the highest degree; she's seen pictures of her father in his hey-day and detests seeing her own eyes square in between two comically large ears and a tacky pair of sideburns. She dislikes taking after her father so literally in a physical sense, but perhaps if she had never met her father and known her eyes as his she'd be able to see what people are talking about. Big, unblinking, and for the greater part of the time quite stoic, Sloane's silver-blue eyes recall of some little piece of sky behind a forgotten lighthouse on a rainy day in some faded and moth-eaten postcard from Maine or perhaps Ireland. Elegantly shaped and unflinchingly cold, Sloane's eyes are at once captivating and chilling, her strongest feature despite her distaste for them. built, If you have ever been asked to imagine a person the opposite of intimidating, even if you have never seen her in your life, you would imagine Sloane. To top off the cherub-like Aryan blonde hair and blue eye combination, Sloane is tiny and looks as if she hasn't exercised a day in her life. She does; she is, unexpectedly, a natural at long-distance running. Sloane can't seem to put on muscle mass, however, and remains girlish and sweetly soft looking, how she would prefer it. That being said, Sloane may be small but she is one of the most well-proportioned people you're likely to meet. Nothing looks out of place on her; she is as she was designed to be. height, Sloane clocks in at 5'2" and a half (a half that she'll insist on keeping.) This, once again, was inherited from dear old daddy, but she doesn't mind being short nearly as much as she minds other things. Some might feel cheated, what with a model mother and being somewhat vertically challenged, but Sloane has never aspired to be something as vapid as a model and enjoys the cards she holds as a short blonde. People expect next to nothing from her; Sloane appreciates the irony of when she owns their judgmental asses. weight, Although she did not get her mother's runway legs that go on for days and days, Sloane is as thin as a toothpick and could subside on Twinkies for a year before she puts on a pound. Her metabolism is an ox. She is delicately thin, breakable and small, so dangerously tiny that the media has recycled the "DeWitt youngest in rehab for anorexia again! Mary-Kate visits the heiress! See inside for details!" cover three times in Sloane's short career as a flippant socialite. (How much truth there is to that story is as yet undisclosed; all UsWeekly has been able to cite are 'sources close to DeWitt.') Other sixteen year old girls in Sloane's position might be concerned about Mother Nature's serious oversight in womanly blessings so far received up to this point, but Sloane knows better and sees the advantage of being a waif in a society that reveres waifs. fashion sense, Sloane is not a fashion victim. She knows this season's trends backwards and forwards, could tell you what designer started what movement and who will be the next big thing, but to her deathbed she refuses to be one of them. Sloane was born and raised (until she was around nine) Greenwich, Connecticut. She is a WASP. She can man a sailboat. She has a lifetime 20% at J.Crew. Sloane is a prep and revels in it; her madras bleed and she owns polos and collared shirts in all patterns and colors. She dresses simply and brightly, and she always, always, always looks put together. She is not the type of socialite to go running around in (gag her with a spoon) sweatpants with, God forbid, the word 'Pink' on the back. played by, Dakota Fanning
PERSONALITY,
loves, Sailing, her family's estate in Greenwich, summering in the Hamptons, singing, attention, being perfect, praise, shoe shopping, winning, being the best, organization, cleanliness, long distance running, planning, making lists, waking up early, her brother, real estate, getting what she wants, perfume, older men, her day planner. loathes, Losing, her brother's bad boy ways, boys her age, being treated like a child, hair dye, trashy clothes, skanks, losing her temper, small animals, being told what to do, disappointing people, her eyes, her mom, being wrong, not being in control, chaos, filth, alcohol, bad hair days, bad press, sleeping, lying, drugs, gambling. strenghts, (1) She is persuasive as hell, she can talk to into anything before you realize what's happening. Some call it charm, some call it manipulation, Sloane calls it a lovely concoction of determination and knowing precisely what she wants. (2) She is hyper organized. Cleanliness is, after all, next to Godliness, and Sloane takes this to rather extremes. She is organized, well-groomed, and knows exactly where she'll be and what she'll be doing a year in advance. She plans for everything. (3) Singing. Sloane isn't like other socialites; she is legitimately talented. She has a lovely voice and wants more than anything to use it. weaknesses, (1) Sloane has somewhat of a short fuse. A lot of things set her off and hell hath no fury like a DeWitt woman scorned. (2) Sloane was born without a sense of humor. She is the most serious, no-funny-business sixteen year old you will ever meet, and she has been this way all her life. If she makes you laugh, it was definitely not on purpose and you will probably die painfully for laughing at her in the first place. (3) Sloane's older brother is a bad, bad boy. He parties, takes drugs, sleeps with a girl or three, and then repeats. However, despite the obvious disparity between the two siblings, he truly is her favorite person in the whole world and she'd probably do anything for him. fears, (1) Never amounting to anything more than just the daughter of a rich man. She doesn't want to be like her brother and just live off of her father's name. (2) Being imperfect; Sloane is chronically insecure. This fear has manifested itself in her anorexia, only rumored publicly, which has been ongoing for 3 years. (3) The uncharted land of a physical relationship with a man. Sloane is quite sheltered; her parents felt they made a lot of mistakes with her brother and therefore overcompensated with Sloane. She has never had a boyfriend and is terrified she'll be bad at it. dreams, (1) To sing, successfully. Sloane hasn't decided if she wants to be solo or if she should start seeking out a band. (2) To have a boyfriend. This is amazingly short-sighted for Sloane, who has planned relatively her whole life five times over more or less, but this is a topic that scares her so she wants to start slow. (3) To be liked. Her mother, the media, the girls at school...they all handled Sloane very poorly. She desperately just wants someone to like her for who she is. overall personality,
There's that whole 'feminine mystique' thing where a woman is so intricate and goes so deep that no one will ever understand her truest desires. Sloane is not that woman. Sloane sees. Sloane wants. Sloane gets. Repeat.
Sloane has always known exactly what she wants out of life. She sees this as a wonderful, beautiful talent that most people seem to lack, which is consequently why most people seem to fail and Sloane seems to...not. Sloane's outer demeanor is one of perpetually miffed professionalism, someone who is cold and focused and beyond accustomed to succeeding at whatever she does. This makes for a serious (seriously spoiled?) sixteen year old, but Sloane thinks having a sense of humor, especially in today's economy, is highly impractical. And Sloane is nothing if not practical.
Sloane is direct; she possesses less subtlety than a chainsaw and is hopeless when it comes to lying. (It's because she has no imagination.) But she has some kind of magic about her and when she lays it on thick she can get you to do anything, with just a bit of honesty and a greater bit of planning on her part. Sloane is persuasive because she makes it so easy to choose her way of doing things; she does all the legwork, all you have to do is say yes. She works hard, tirelessly, to get what she wants, but the tradeoff to that is yes, she will get what she worked for.
Sloane operates in very particular ways. Her mother introduced a highly regimented schedule at a very young age and even after she grew away from her mother, Sloane never lost her love of clean, wholesome order. She can't survive in a room that isn't properly dusted and she can't get dressed out of a closet that isn't in rainbow order. Sloane would short circuit if she had to go through her day without her day planner. She's been accused of being OCD, but Sloane equates cleanliness with Godliness, and in an uncharacteristically optimistic turn, Sloane believes perfection is all too attainable.
Sloane is quite cynical for someone so fortunate, but her brand of half-glass-empty can't be encompassed with 'pessimism.' Sloane is a fatalist; whatever is, will be, and this gives her the wonderful option of insisting on her own inescapable success and most other peoples' inevitable failure. And she does, quite frequently; she's a bitch, plain and simple. Judgmental and impatient, Sloane isn't what you'd call a 'people person.' It doesn't matter that she is, on a good day, the picture perfect example of good manners and law-abiding behavior. She isn't a warm person, and she cannot fake what she does not feel.
It is possible for Sloane to be civil with someone she doesn't like, but that is a very complex balance to exist in, and Sloane is such a hot head that it never lasts long. She has a terrible, ugly temper that rears its ugly head so often that she's bound for some stress induced illness one day that's likely to kill her. A lot of things piss her off and you better pray you're not one of them.
Sloane is like sandpaper; she will, without fail, wear you down. But Sloane's grainy exterior will never, ever fail her, and it's a pity because underneath all that rough, Sloane is like any other sixteen year old, insecure with big, big dreams.
HISTORY,
family, Reagan Girard DeWitt, father, 68, owns wildly successful DeWitt hotel chain. Barbara 'Babs' DeWitt, nee Harding, mother, 43, retired supermodel and failure of a homemaker. Barron DeWitt, brother, 20, socialite and brand name. hometown, Greenwich, Connecticut pets, Jock, German Shepherd, 12, family dog. Ben Franklin, German Shepherd, 10, family dog. overall history, Barbara Harding was no more than a baby, barely nineteen, when she met recluse millionaire Reagan DeWitt. Barbara was an aspiring model, and naturally she had heard of the man. It was impossible not to know of him; DeWitt hotels were the best anywhere you went, he had quite the global monopoly, but more than that, she had heard of him personally.
Barbara didn't consider herself a gold digger and neither did any of the other wannabe models who chased after rich old men, and when Barbara spied Reagan at a party in New York and decided in her heart that she must have him (and his millions) she didn't see anything wrong with it either. So, like any predator with its prey, she pursued, and when she caught him, she feasted. She moved into his Greenwich estate a week or two after the party. They were married a month later.
All things considered, Barbara and Reagan were rather functional. They got along fairly well compared to other couples of similar natures, and there was mutual benefit. Reagan, quite obviously, got to enjoy Barbara; Barbara, on the other hand, got to enjoy Reagan's money, not to mention her career skyrocketed. Barbara could've lived forever like this, cheating on Reagan quite publicly, spending Reagan's money, and modeling for petty cash. But Reagan was quite a bit sharper than Barbara gave him credit for and had a few tricks up his sleeve to get back at his wife (all in good natured fun, of course) for her pandering.
Barbara was shocked and horrified when, at the ripe age of twenty-three, her birth control failed her for the first time. She had taken the pills religiously; she knew it was the only thing that could ruin her. She didn't want to have Reagan's baby, and what's much more, she didn't want to have anyone else's. But Reagan had replaced her precious pills with vitamins and, oopsie, forgot to tell her. Barbara's modeling career and partying ways were put on hold for nine months while she grew the lovely Barron DeWitt inside of her.
Barron turned out to be Reagan's; he hadn't intended it to be that way, but it was a pleasant surprise for him and a huge relief to Barbara. As soon as the ordeal was over, she hired a nanny and a trainer and continued on as if Barron had never happened. Reagan spoiled Barron sporadically when he was around, and earned the boys adoration, but the combined neglect of both the parents turned Barron into a bad seed.
Four years later, Barbara had found a steady lover and quite fancied the idea of having a child with him. She made Reagan get a vasectomy and went off the pills as she pleased. Shortly after she lost all faith in matters of reproduction when, in a terrible series of mishaps, Reagan's vasectomy failed and her lover turned out to be shooting blanks. Lover was dumped and Barbara gave up sex all together. She vowed to do right by this baby; she had seen what a buffoon her son was making of himself. She retired from modeling and became housewife and mother of her own home for the first time.
Sloane was raised in Greenwich for the first nine years of her life by an overbearing and inexperienced mother. Even with a clueless mom, though, her childhood was charmed. Daddy DeWitt found that he liked doting on his daughter even more than he had liked doting on his son and did it frequently, and more thoughtfully. Her mother had diligently forced young Sloane to learn how to read and write at a particularly young age, along with the standard tennis, golf, sailing, piano, and French. When it came time for school, Sloane was shipped off during the week to an elite New York all-girls boarding school and carted home on the weekends.
It was during this time that Sloane grew particular to singing. She joined the choir at school on a whim, and discovered, to her delight, that she was quite natural at it. Sloane wasn't used to be a natural at anything; she was the best at everything she did, it was unquestionable, but all of that took a considerable amount of effort on her part. It was exhausting to be the best at all of those things. But singing, she found to be fun. It was a mystery to her; her mother hadn't introduced fun into her schedule yet.
It was also during this time that Sloane grew to adore her brother Barron. She only met him in the oddest of circumstances, but because they were without the typical brother-sister environment of shared bathrooms and TV remotes, they were also without the typical brother-sister dichotomy. It was, no doubt, a long distance relationship; Barron was at some all-boys military academy in Virginia indefinitely. But they wrote letters, and would send each other care packages, and when Barron was home he would sneak out with Sloane and let her do bad things. Sloane went to her first concert with Barron, she discovered she hated alcohol with Barron. They would've had many more devious firsts in Greenwich together over the years if Barron hadn't decided to run away.
Barron was only thirteen when he grew tired of school in Virginia. He had bounced from a couple boarding schools to other, more rigid boarding schools until he finally realized that this really wasn't his scene. So one day he packed only the essentials and flew himself to Los Angeles, without so much as leaving a note.
Reagan DeWitt is a powerful man and it didn't take long for him to locate his son. When he found him, unwittingly staying in the suite of a DeWitt hotel in California, he thought he ought to go and get him. So Reagan flew out to retrieve him, but instead of doing that and coming home, he let Barron talk his way out of things.
Sloane most certainly learned her persuasive powers from her older brother, because Barron somehow convinced an Ivy League grad, self-made millionaire that he should probably move his family out to Cali so that he, Barron, could get his GED there and explore the career path of a professional surfer. Possibly Reagan was bored. Possibly Reagan was tired of donating libraries to schools to avoid a tarnished reputation. Possibly Reagan likes his children a bit too much. For whatever the reason, Reagan took his son's advice, and sooner than Sloane knew what was happening she was living on beachfront property and going to a different prep school.
And this is where Sloane finds herself now, in the climactic rush of being a teenager and also discovering she's somewhat famous. The recent media attention to her life has caused a bit of an upset in her already delicate self-confidence; she's struggled secretly (and sometimes not so secretly, depending on what the tabloids are saying) with anorexia ever since she started getting photographed. Everyone in her life dismisses the stories as false, and she's never dream of correcting them.
