this dark, mellow club is designed in a subdued, post-modern style. friday and saturday nights have the place packed and jumping but most other nights the atmosphere is just cool and relaxing. slowly oscillating lights behind the bar and a laid-back DJ spinning jazz and bebop tunes set the tone and slow down the pace for the easygoing 20-something crowd.

THE FIFTH COCTAIL LOUNGE,


this hot valley hangout draws both locals and Hollywood hipsters willing to venture into the 818 to check out its retro-chic delights and killer jukebox. though it's usually packed just about every night of the week, the friendly crowd will make room for you (reminding you that you're definitely not in hollwyood anymore). take a seat at the inviting redwood bar, wander back to check out the quirky orange wallpaper in the lounge area, or wait your turn at the pool table or tabletop ms. pacman and galaga machines ... you'll swear you've wandered into some '80s rec room from your childhood.

THE ROXY THEATRE,


the club itself has the potential to be intimate, but the acts that play this legendary spot in hollywood are far too wild to keep things quiet--especially not with one of the best sound systems on the sunset strip. floor-level and raised standing area (with some occasional seats), a spacious dance floor/mosh pit, and a bar loaded for beer all add up to an authentic hollywood experience. eclectic to the max.

enter this basement bar and lounge underneath STK, and you might feel as though you've stumbled down wonderland's rabbit hole--except it's populated with hollywood glitterati instead of the white rabbit and company. the psychedelic, pucci-esque decor is a kaleidoscope of colors, laced with a mishmash of bold prints in shocking pink and electric blue that enhance the intimate spot's kitschy look. near the marble-topped bar, paisley yellow and rainbow striped cushions adorn the set of swings hanging from the ceiling. don't expect your entrance to be as easy as Alice's, however; getting past the iron-clad velvet rope is a trip in itself.
